Why We Are Different

Our strength lies in connecting diverse areas of specialties - a hub of understanding

 

 

  • Instead of specializing in 1 or 2 subject areas (like many teachers), we specialize in many areas: math, science, test preparations, college admissions.  We see how the foundation for one course paves the path for the next.  There is physics in calculus, and biology in chemistry.  Course material overlaps.  We know what material and concepts the students will see again (and therefore stress) as they progress to the next level.

 

  • We use simple everyday examples to explain difficult concepts.  Students can use what they already know to help them understand challenging scientific or mathematical concepts.  We help them see the math and science in everyday life.  We also show them the importance of being able to communicate thoughts verbally and on paper. 

 

  • Our goal is to make sure students learn more than just how to work the current assignment, but how to take very complex problems and make them simple by breaking them down into small steps.  Students learn problem-solving skills and how to express their ideas in an orderly, step-by-step fashion.  Students gain confidence and let go of their anxiety as they see that every problem can be broken down.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

        

 

 

 

 

I was struggling in Calculus because I had a weak Algebra and Trigonometry foundation.  I understood both while I was taking them, but that was 1 or 2 years ago.   My Algebra and Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry teachers could not help because these were Calculus problems.  My Calculus teacher had weak explanations (if any at all) of the Algebra and Trigonometry.  I was completely lost until I found Erin.  Since Erin specializes in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, and Calculus - she saw exactly where I was struggling and gave me a quick yet thorough refresher of the Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Trigonometry.  Erin taught me the exact concepts I needed for Calculus and understood my questions even though I was having a hard time expressing them.  By the 3rd six weeks,  I was making "A"s  (improved 3 letter grades).
